Self Care and Why It Is Important

September 16, 2021
Self-care is a word many people have heard before, but they might not know what it actually means. Self-care is the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s health. But it also means to take care of yourself and to take breaks.
Where did self-care come from? It originated from the 1950s. The people who originally created that term were doctors. Doctors wanted their patients to be healthier and to treat themselves. It was believed that people could not take care of others’ problems without taking care of themselves first.
How do you do self-care? It’s simple and you can do it in many ways. Self-care does not have to be complicated, it can be simple to make you relaxed. Some self-care activities include taking naps, listening to relaxing music, reading a book, watching youtube, drawing, and so much more. It can even be as simple as drinking a glass of water.
Why is self-care important? It is important because it encourages a person to maintain a healthy relationship with themselves. It makes a person feel good and relieved about themselves. It helps a person manage their stress, increase their energy and lower the risk of developing an illness.
Many people call taking care of yourself selfish, but in reality it is not. You are taking care of your mind and body and nobody should tell you anything about it. Self-care is not in any way selfish. Take some time to participate in your own self-care and take care of yourself.
