What to Do When You Graduate

What to Do When You Graduate

Seniors, it’s crazy how fast four years can actually go by right before our eyes. Most students are excited and ready to take on the world, while some are terrified of growing up and facing what the world has to offer. There are some people who are confused and not sure what they’re going to do now that they are adults. Growing up can be a scary thing to do, but with the right mindset a whole lot can be accomplished.

After high school the next few years are very important. The next four years can be what your life is going to be like for the rest of your existence. Sounds scary right? That’s why most people have it all figured out before graduating or start trying as soon as they get out. Life can either eat you up alive or you can take it head on and show it who’s boss. It’s always scary at first to grow up but it’s something we will have to get accustomed to. Time isn’t going to put itself on hold for us.

Some people plan out what they’re going to do when they get out of high school. There’s a variety of things we can do when we graduate, such as getting a job, going to school, starting a business, etc. Some even decide to join the Army or Marines or other branches of the military. It’s crazy how free we get to be but with that comes a lot of responsibility. Now our parents don’t look after us, we have to learn how to provide for ourselves or end up staying dependent on our parents because we are confused on what to do.

LIfe can be one of two ways. It can knock you down if you let it or you can come out on top. It’s crazy how many different journeys you can take in this long run called life. People can go from high school to college, getting their associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. Some people can go from being a kid wanting to join the army holding fake guns and toys, to actually fighting for their country, traveling to different areas of the world. Then there are kids who’ve dreamt of inventing some things they’ve always loved. They go on to pursue that dream and make their dream come true. The years after high school can be scary. Some students may not not know exactly what to do then and there and others who in the next few years become very successful.

I took the time to talk to my friend who’s also a senior about how she feels about graduating high school. She said she’s confused and doesn’t really know what she wants to do. She had talked about how she thinks college isn’t the route for her, so she plans on getting a job and starting there, which think is good. She isn’t just going to stay stuck at home all day being confused. It’s ok to take a little longer to figure out what you want to do.

As you can see there are a lot of things that go through our heads when we become seniors. Each of us have a different way of dealing with these decisions. Sooner or later, everyone will have to make a decision about their first step into their future.
